Psychotherapy is a controlled act and only certain professions can provide it. I am able to provide psychotherapy as a nurse, but I wanted to further my education and ability to provide effective counselling. Therefore, I have finished my Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology and registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). Registered psychotherapists must display “qualifying” after their name until they have completed 400 hours of individual direct counselling and 100 hours of supervision from a qualifying supervisor. I am well on my way and will change my title as soon as I have reached this milestone.

Psychotherapy is covered by most benefits plans. Be sure you check with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage. Payment for counselling is due at the end of each session. It is up to you to submit a claim to your insurance for reimbursement. If you have any trouble or require further information for your insurance company, please reach out.

Counselling aims to equip you with knowledge and understanding to navigate life’s challenges. Intake sessions are an opportunity for the counsellor to start to get to know you and your previous life experiences. Second or subsequent sessions typically involve setting goals and implementing strategies to help you achieve your desired outcomes.

Everything shared with your counsellor is completely confidential; however, there are a few exceptions. If I fear that you may be an imminent harm to yourself or someone else, than I need to report this to the appropriate authorities. If I am concerned about any form of child abuse, I have a legal obligation to report to CAS. There is a remote possibility that your records could be subpoenaed if you are involved in legal proceedings; however, even then I would do my best to protect your privacy.

Windswept Counselling and Wellness was inspired by Georgian Bay and its symbolic windswept pine. A windswept pine, with its resilient stance against strong winds, symbolizes adaptability, strength, and perseverance. In the context of wellbeing, it serves as a reminder that challenges and adversities can shape growth and resilience. Just as the winds shape the pine, therapy and wellness practices help individuals navigate life's storms, fostering inner strength and resilience for personal growth and wellbeing.
